Spectacular and Unusual Cork Wedding Ceremony Venues
During this current Covid-19 Lockdown, many of us have been forced to stay close to home. This caused me to pause and think about some of the great wedding ceremony venues that are right here on my own doorstep in Cork, Ireland. These venues cater for wedding ceremonies of all shapes and sizes from elopements with just the two of you, to small intimate family weddings and also for larger gatherings and celebrations These wedding ceremony venues are well worth exploring if you are looking for somewhere out of the ordinary and that will create unique memories of your wedding day for you and your guests.
1. Camden Fort Meagher, Crosshaven Co. Cork
This 400 year old coastal fort sits on a clifftop overlooking the narrow entrance to Cork Harbour, so the views out to sea past Roches Point Lighthouse and back towards Cobh, with it's soaring cathedral, are truly spectacular. With over 60% of the fort located underground, Camden Fort Meagher offers a selection of unique spaces, both above and below ground for your wedding ceremony. You can choose from one of the recently restored barracks halls or you can opt for the unique magazine bunker that in past times housed an arsenal of weapons, gunpowder and ammunition. The bunker is accessed via the amazing spiral stone staircase with it's customised chandelier.
This staircase, along with other unique locations throughout the fort can be showcased by your photographer to create wonderful memories of your Fort Camden wedding. Crosshaven is a small sailing village located just 30 minutes drive from Cork City, with popular wedding reception venues such as Carrigaline Court Hotel, Maryborough House Hotel and Rochestown Park Hotel all within very easy reach. If you are looking for a unique ceremony location that provides a fantastic backdrop for your photographs, then Camden Fort Meagher is definitely worth exploring,
2. Charles Fort, Kinsale, Co. Cork
Another of Cork's fabled coastal fortifications is Charles Fort, located in the picturesque town of Kinsale, at the very start of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. Kinsale is also known as the gourmet capital of Ireland, so you can be certain that your wedding here will be a gastronomic delight. Charles Fort is one of the finest examples of a 17th Century star-shaped fort, with two enormous bastions overlooking the harbour.
The gunpower magazine building dating back to 1680 is one of the oldest and best preserved buildings within the fort and within it's ancient walls under it's high vaulted ceiling is where your wedding ceremony can be performed in a truly unique setting.
Charles Fort is also a photographer's dream location with a wide variety of views and backdrops immediately available. For instance, the drawbridge over the dry moat makes a wonderful location for a "First Look" photo shoot, while the dramatic ramparts are a fun space for bridal party shots.
With many great wedding hotels and venues to choose from in nearby Kinsale town for instance Kinsale Hotel and Spa, Actons Hotel, The Trident Hotel and Ballinacurra House to name but a few, a Wedding Ceremony in Charles Fort will get your wedding day off to a spectacular start. And you never know, the White Lady, Charles Fort's own resident ghost, could even make a guest appearance!
3. Cork City Gaol, Sunday's Well, Cork
This is one of my all-time favourite Wedding Ceremony venues ...... quirky, dramatic and just that little bit spooky! For a Halloween wedding, I can't think of a more suitable ceremony venue.......it is known to be one of the most haunted buildings in Ireland!!
Built in the 1800's Cork City Gaol (pronounced Jail), was indeed a Victorian prison and has many tales to tell. Today it is a popular tourist attraction and can also be hired as a unique and memorable wedding ceremony location. The building has a stunning castle-like appearance and offers a unique and atmospheric location that will captivate your guests.
The restored cell-block can be transformed into a magical wedding ceremony venue and the buildings and gardens offer great locations for wedding photographs.
Located in the leafy Cork suburb of Sunday's Well, just outside the city centre, you'll have a wide choice of reception venues available close by including the five-star Hayfield Manor Hotel, the riverside setting of The Kingsley Hotel and the old-world grace and charm of The Imperial Hotel in Cork City. If you really want your wedding ceremony to stand out, then a consultation with the team at Cork City Gaol could detain you for longer that you think!
4. St. Peters, North Main Street, Cork
Although St. Peters was deconsecrated as a place of worship in 1949, ancient maps show it dates all the way back to medieval times, to 1590 in fact. Located in North Main Street, one of Cork's oldest streets, it is now a modern wedding ceremony venue, effortlessly blending old and new.

6. Blackrock Castle Observatory, Blackrock, Cork
What can I say about Blackrock Castle Observatory? As a wedding ceremony venue, it is really hard to beat. The architecture both inside and outside is truly magical, allowing you to create a fairytale wedding ceremony and you very own happily ever after.
The castle's Forum, a magnificent circular room and Long Room, the real heart of the castle showcasing the stunning architecture are both used as ceremony spaces.
